Starting your own farm sounds great, right? Careful, that first step is a big one.

Our Story

Two years into the Covid-19 pandemic and we found ourselves struggling to manage our career demands, family time, and the increasing cost of living. We both had careers that would occupy our thoughts and the time dedicated to our family. As a police detective and a critical care nurse, we were always tethered to our phones so we could be available to work at a moments notice. Although we both loved our jobs and the overwhelming satisfaction of being able to interact with and help the members of our community, we agreed that we needed to simplify our lives and refocus on our small family.

We have both always had a love of caretaking for animals and have dreamed of being able to start a project like this one. After watching a video about a farm, we looked at each other and knew without saying a word that this was the type of rural life we wanted to pursue and provide to our daughter. We evaluated our options at the time and realized that it was possible to chase this dream. Believe me, despite our excitement to start this new path, it is terrifying to sell everything and walk away from two careers that took decades to accomplish.

We selected the Texas Hill Country so we could be close to family and it is the best decision we ever made. Granted, starting a farm from a blank slate is harder and requires more resources than we originally anticipated, but we wouldn’t change a thing. Even on the hardest days we love to look out at the land and the happy animals as they graze.
